Australia isn’t always the place that springs to mind when planning a honeymoon but with flight prices more competitive than ever and it literally being foodie heaven… now is the time to explore. Australia has grown up past its backpacker status and is at the forefront of everything food, coffee, wine and of course… weddings (go check out Hello May).

And it has THE BEST BEACHES.

Although we LOVE Melbourne (look out for our blog post coming soon), Sydney we felt was just a tick off of the list. We found so many off the beaten track places, some were close to Sydney, the rest closer to Brisbane. And you could easily do them in 2-3 weeks. If scenery, wine, peace and views like the photo below float your boat head to NSW. But for endless beaches, guaranteed sunshine and chilled out vibes fly straight into Brisbane and hit the Sunshine Coast…

GO: THE BLUE MOUNTAINS, NSW

For: historical mountain villages, natural phenomena and scenery like this…

Stay:  1880’s Church on the Colo river – voted one of the most beautiful air bnbs in the world and featured on “The Living Room” tv series

Eat: Follow the Oyster trail for the BEST oysters in the world (and we’ve tried a few!)

GO: BELLINGEN, NSW

For: bohemian vibes, swimming in magical waterholes, lush greenery, historical village, one of the best coffees in Oz

Stay: in a rainforest chalet amongst lush tropical paradise

Swim: the most magical watering hole Never Never creek in The Promised Land

Drink: coffee at Hyde. Gorgeous interiors, luxury homeware for sale and one of the best coffees we had in Australia

GO: If you fly into Sydney go check out the iconic Icebergs pool at Bondi Beach, shop at Bondi markets and you MUST visit  Grounds of Alexandria – one of the most beautiful wedding venues and restaurant we ever did see (and it comes complete with its own pet pig).

GO: BYRON BAY

For: the bay of dreams, hipster hangs, some of the best surfing in the world, boutique shopping, food, partying

Watch: just watching the surfers at the famous “Pass” is breathtaking. If you’re feeling brave its also one of the best places to learn

Walk: the lighthouse loop at sunset and you might spot some whales and turtles

Check out: the street art may not compare to Melbourne but its alive and kicking in Byron

Eat: Sustainable and natural food in a farm setting at Three Blue Ducks

Stay/Eat: Motel turned boutique hotel Halcyon House for Instagram heaven, 60s vibes on Carbarita beach, Australia does Palm Springs. Make a reservation at in house Paper Daisy restaurant. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Live: The motto is “Cheer up, slow down, chill out”…

GO: Burleigh Heads and the Gold Coast

Relax: Nobby Beach. A beautiful yet somehow deserted stretch of the Gold Coast

Stay: So many luxury high rises for a fraction of the cost of anywhere else in Australia

Breakfast: BSKT cafe – cool beach coffee shop with organic food and yoga. It’s all about the thermogenic coconut coffee

Hang out: with the hip locals in Burleigh heads. Beautiful beaches, foodie destination heaven, boutique shopping

Take home: Some non toxic and cruelty free make up from Clean Beauty market at Mermaid Beach (the staff are LOVELY) and a neo traditional tattoo by the amazing Tilly Dee

Eat: Rick Shores – massive statement but maybe our fave restaurant in the world?! Pan Asian flavours, literally in the sea with the waves lapping at the windows and surfers riding by, the best oysters, cocktails and THE BUG ROLL…
